Leadership and Functional Management. Supervise and manage Certified Professional Controllers (CPCs) in the daily tasks of safely separating and sequencing aircraft as well as coordinating aircraft movement with other facilities at a terminal facility. Issue safety alerts when necessary and manage traffic calls. Plan and direct operations within the scope of CPC management and supervision; serve as Front Line Manager (FLM) for a team of _x_ to _x_ (how many?) CPCs. Consistently comply with all requirements of the Safety Management System (SMS) within established timeframes. Develop effective Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) in conjunction with Quality Control/Quality Assurance offices based on issued timelines in response to systemic issues; ensure CAP completion as prescribed. Effectively assess and monitor positions carrying highest risk potential.

 

Team Leadership. Actively encourage individual CPCs and the entire CPC team to achieve business results on a consistent basis. Proficiently identify individual strengths and encourage those individuals to build on them for the purpose of short term productivity improvement while building for future workforce planning. Communicate openly and honestly with all team members.

 

Training and Development. Continually promote and instruct in safety when directing any CPC activity. Proficiently serve as a cadre instructor for recurrent training, biannually addressing the 5 most frequent operational errors throughout the entire air traffic control system and then sharing with all facilities. Effectively identify training and development needs within the group and ensure resolution. Actively promote teamwork concepts highlighting individual responsibility while yet contributing to the success of the entire CPC team. Purposefully and consistently identify leadership potential among members of all CPC teams. Coach and mentor identified individuals; readily provide development and advancement opportunities. Ensure individuals successfully complete all mandatory training with prescribed periods of time.

 

Labor Relations Management. Assess and approve CPC leave requests. Conduct performance reviews, consult with CPCs relative to their individual career goals; recommend performance ratings. Field, hear and resolve any complaints or grievances of CPCs; escalate more serious unresolved complaints to a superior manager. Communicate and reinforce diversity and EEO policies and programs in all areas including selection, training, and transfers. Fully support and participate in a positive labor management partnership process. Continually foster a positive work environment in which all CPCs are treated equitably and fairly, and in which CPCs feel free to express any concerns.

 

Administrative and Operations Management. Advise, counsel and instruct CPCs in both functional and administrative issues. Identify production or quality deficiencies; plan and execute mitigating actions. Recommend goals and objectives for CPC teams; track gains and accomplishments. Effectively manage changing conditions and demands with flexibility while never sacrificing safety.
