Professional Experience (continued)
Next Tier Concepts Vienna, VA
Senior Geospatial Scientist May 2008 May 2009
Created a Western U.S. ESRI GIS system populated with data from the United States Forestry Service (USFS) and numerous other natural resource agencies. Used ESRI to process geospatial layers for integration into Google Earth.
Successfully deployed a USFS Google Earth globe, giving forest firefighters a common base of operation to better allocate limited resources and quickly respond to new fires.
Streamed fire-related Keyhole Modeling Language (KLM) hosted by various agencies to update firefighters on current weather conditions, wind speed and direction, cloud cover and lighting strikes. Streamed Terra or Aqua satellite imagery for early detection of new fires.
Updated aerial responders locations via beacon systems aboard responder planes and helicopters. Fused static ArcGIS layers onto the globe, such as historical fire perimeters, transportation systems, hydrology information, aviation bases, administrative boundaries, assets at risk, etc.
Designed and executed a system for local firefighters to post new fire perimeter shapefiles to the globe and view the latest fire direction probability models.
Facilitated significant technological gains for the USFS by integrating real-time, complex, disparate datasets and fire path model predictions into one visualization tool for responders.
