  Contribute actively to a constantly-hectic, Level 1 Trauma Center in an ER setting

  Cater to an underprivileged population that faces many difficult injuries and ailments, including open fractures, gunshot wounds, chainsaw, MVA sepsis, infected diabetic wounds and ankle sprain

  Establish Resident schedules, as well as set up academic weekly article reviews and x-ray rounds

  Communicate with other department heads, Attending Physicians and intervene when necessary

  Foster positive working relationships with other department heads including Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, ER, Infectious Disease and Orthopedic Surgery

  Address Residents questions and concerns as they arise; work diligently to devise solutions that work for all involved parties.

  Worked over the first year to cover nine clinics a week

o   Included rounds on inpatient patients and addressing trauma calls

o   Spent the other half of the time covering clinic and trauma call but also fulfill outside medical and surgical rotations

  Served during the second year to supervise the first year Residents in patient management across the floor

o   Communicated with the Attending Physician and covered less clinical operations

  Took additional courses such as Total Ankle Replacement and Ankle Arthroscopy during second year and early third year

  Will engage in a Circular Ring Fixators Course, considered advanced, from April 6-8, 2017

  Presented a case about TMT (tarso-metatarsal) Fusion in charcot reconstruction at Winthrop Hospital

  Partake in grand rounds with orthopedic colleagues

  Present cadaveric workshops with different external organizations such as Integra and Osteomed

  Fielded a noteworthy case in which a patient came into the facility suffering from osteomyelitis, a bone infection of the calcaneus (heel bone)

o   Noted that her white blood count was 33 and she was septic, the body's inflammatory reaction that can be very dangerous and life-threatening

o   Before this case, the doctors would have consulted with Vascular Surgery to complete a below-the-knee amputation; opted to try and save both her leg and life instead

o   Took her to the OR and completed a partial Calcanectomy; took part of the calcaneus out and soon saw her WBC drop from 33 to 10, with sepsis gone the following morning

o   Also applied a wound vac and was able to close the wound via grafting, all of which ended up saving her across the board

 

Will engage in a Chicago-ACFAS surgical rotation this year; involves work with top surgeons like Dr. Sean T. Grambart, the President of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery to cover complex reconstruction and trauma cases jointly. Will also work with other doctors to handle more involved cases.
