I am elated to continue my academic journey and achieve a master s degree with FAU, as I have had a long-time professional desire to work with children who have experienced difficult traumas to ultimately attain positive results for life-changing outcomes.

I am a details-focused Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Candidate at FAU who offers a background in Non-Profit Organizational Support, Committee Membership, and Customer Service. I have also demonstrated experience working with women and children in residential day treatment, outpatient services, and youth development areas.

I have first-hand experience in recognizing the need for educated trauma therapists that work with children in our community. My daughter came to me three years ago and confided in me that her fourth grade teacher had sexually assaulted her during the entire fourth grade year. This admission began our journey to justice. Our path to justice included many therapists, police officers, social workers, and lawyers. I was able to witness the process of my daughter going through stages of denial, anger, depression, and ultimately acceptance. I have witnessed the good, the bad, and the ugly of our justice system and its treatment of victims. I made it my mission as a mother to make sure that my daughter received proper mental health counseling and support throughout the entire process. I was able to walk my daughter through the process with dignity and strength. Ultimately, my daughter s abuser received two life sentences for his crime. It was a long and often grueling road, but we were able to get a very dangerous man out of our schools and off of our streets.

As I was going through this long process, I often rexxxxxxected, What will this experience lead me to as a mother, student, and fellow human being? The answer to that was easy for me. I want to use my experience to help other children and their families suffering from similar challenges. My hope is that my personal experience and my amazing education at FAU will benefit families that are in need of help.

I believe that I will be an asset to your program because I am a dedicated student with a thirst for knowledge, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the education, professors, and facilities that FAU has offered me in the past few years.
